1. The original article is dated (1931). I have used the English translation by J. de Rivera.

2. Notably, to cite the most famous one of those who were inspired by it (without having read the procedure), Jean-Paul Sartre. See his Esquisse d’une théorie des émotions.

3. This “speaking of very personal matters” as deviant or abnormal behavior can be read in light of the hypothesis of one realm of science, which would be added to the five realms of Boltanski and Thevenot (1991), whose passage should be properly negotiated at the risk of being “displaced.” It is considered scandalous, anomalous, or symptomatic of bad manners when the actors show the justifications or behaviors of one realm in another, where they do not belong. The fact that the subject who speaks of personal matters in a “scientific” situation that produces emotions appears as “inappropriate,” clearly shows that the values which may make the splendor of the domestic realm are seen as uncalled-for in the realm of science and this is so even when it intends to investigate situations that tally with states of the domestic realm.
